Instagram account, raising awareness on mental health in the dance industry.

I aim to teach others more about mental health disorders (such as anxiety, depression, and eating disorders) surrounding the industry that I am personally involved in. The dance/performing arts industry is quite well-known for placing strain on the performers’ mental health. From experience, I have known a large number of dancers that have struggled with anxiety over performance, body dysmorphia, with a lack of social life to keep them supported. Even I have struggled with my own mental and physical health, particularly in relation to my body. For 4 years, I have been trying to recover from an achilles injury, a spine injury, alongside body dysmorphia and anxiety. I struggled with my body image for a long long time, and I am currently going through physio-therapy for a quite traumatic injury. I have witnessed first hand how difficult it is to get help and guidance for mental and physical health, and how little support there is for performing artists. I’ve also noticed that there is a form of stigma attached to mental health in the dance industry which results in the issues not being talked about.
