Creating my own video game

Joris

Playing video games is one of my biggest hobbies that I enjoy after school. Ever since I was young, playing video games was a big passion of mine, especially playing games with friends. When I moved to Hong Kong 4 years ago I was able to play video games like “Fifa” (soccer game) with my friends back in the Netherlands. I was also able to keep connections with my friends during the pandemic, surprisingly me and my friends got closer because of video games during the pandemic. But for the last few months, I have been playing a lot of single-player video games like “The Last of Us” and “Horizon Zero Dawn”. I would always judge these games if there is a good storyline, if there are quality issues or if the game is too hard to play. After I eventually finished the games, the credits would roll. With hundreds of names with all different types of roles in making the video game. I was confused why there were so many names and so I did research on how long these games take to make, “The Last of Us” took 3 years to make and “Red Dead Redemption 2” took over 8 years to make with 1600 people working on it! This made me appreciate these games more as 1600 people put 8 years of hard work in a game just for people like me who would judge the game on how the grass doesn’t move when my horse goes over it and so, my learning goal for my personal project is to learn, understand and appreciate the process that comes with making video games by coding my own video game.
