This piece is a representation of my internal anxiety put to canvas. My anxiety stems from a memory that contains hands and I used the symbolism together with the ribcage to convey a sense of being controlled by others. I drew inspiration from Francis Bacon’s eerie and disturbing style when creating the painting. I incorporated the juxtaposition of the living and death together in the composition.
I first drew the main shapes of the hands and ribcage and then layered acrylic paint on top. Details used lighter tones, in a primarily cold colour palette, to emphasise the eeriness of the piece.
