In this piece, I explored the symbol of the umbilical cord to represent my relationship with my mother. The rope acts as the cord that rests inside the uterus, which is hung inside a three layered piece of canvas (sewn with red thread), to represent the three layers of the uterus. The rope then comes outside of the uterus and spreads in multiple directions to show the many different directions my mother and I are heading, however all of the ropes remain intertwined to show the strength of our relationship.
